Hi! My name is Sara and I am crazy about horses! This will be my blog about the horses in my life, the obstacles I encounter with horses, and my riding life!
I will start with today’s ride. Today I rode Mitchell, who is a lazy quarter horse that I love to ride. He is such a big baby and needs to be ridden with positive energy constantly or he will not jump the jump. Today I had a lesson with Sarah on Fly, a bay mare, and Hannah on Spot, her paint pony. At the walk Mitchell was a little lazy but I managed to make him track up with the use of the handy-dandy spurs! He was superb at the trot. I didn’t have to tell him twice to track up! (very rare for this horse!) I got him round and really coming through to the bit. At the canter I didn’t have as much luck. I let him bulge out too much again and he didn’t pick up the right lead numerous times. But in the end I did get him to get up into a good jumping canter and even got a flying change on the flat! (Changes are definatly NOT Mitchell’s strong point. And not mine either.) Then we finally got to jumping. We did ok in the jumping department today, but nothing was outstanding. None of our courses really peiced together right but we got the job done. I also tried my first rollback today! It wasn’t amazing but it wasn’t terrible either. And then to end the ride we jumped without stirrups to help strengthen our legs, which we all needed. Then of course we cooled them off, hosed them down, and did everything we needed to do with them. When we were finished with that we emptied and refilled all the water buckets and went home.
I should be back at the barn sometime this week! Stay tuneddd. haha
